How much RAM does your Minecraft server need?

Players matter less than people think. What really uses memory is how many chunks are loaded, how many plugins or mods you run, and how far players spread out. These are the sizes we'd pick for our own servers.

Still unsure? Our RAM calculator gives you a number for your exact setup, and you can resize from the panel later without losing anything.

Every way to run Minecraft

Choose at checkout, switch later from the Settings tab. Same plan, same price.

Paper

The go-to for plugin servers: faster than Vanilla, fixes common lag sources, and runs Bukkit and Spigot plugins like EssentialsX, LuckPerms and WorldGuard.

Purpur

A Paper fork with hundreds of extra gameplay toggles. Runs the same plugins, for servers that want more control over mobs and mechanics.

Fabric

Lightweight mod loader that updates quickly to new Minecraft versions. Home of performance mods like Lithium and most modern Modrinth packs.

Forge

The classic mod loader behind the big, content-heavy modpacks. Our installer handles the Forge setup so you don't have to run an installer yourself.

Vanilla

Mojang's official server, exactly as the game ships. Best when you want pure survival with no plugins or mods.

Bedrock Edition

The official Bedrock Dedicated Server for friends on phones, consoles and Windows. Separate from Java, from $2.10/month.

Plugins, mods and Modrinth modpacks in one click

Open the Plugins tab and search Modrinth right from your server. We only show versions that match your Minecraft version and loader, and we install required dependencies for you.

For a whole modpack, paste its Modrinth link. NS5 reads the pack, switches the server to the right Fabric or Forge version, downloads every server-side mod and copies in the pack's configs. Client-only mods are skipped so the server actually starts.

  • Search, install, update, disable and remove plugins and mods
  • Paste any Modrinth modpack link to install it
  • Prefer manual? Upload jars to /plugins or /mods with the file manager or SFTP

A control panel made for Minecraft

We built our own panel instead of reskinning someone else's. Minecraft servers get extra tabs that other games don't.

Live console

Real-time output, command history, and start, stop, restart and kill buttons.

Player manager

See who's online. Kick, ban, op or whitelist players in a click, even while the server is off.

TPS & metrics

Players, TPS, tick time, CPU and memory graphs for the last hour, six hours or day.

Server settings editor

Edit server.properties with plain-English labels, a live MOTD preview and server icon upload.

File manager

Drag-and-drop uploads, a code editor with syntax highlighting, zip and unzip.

SFTP

Connect FileZilla or WinSCP with your panel login to move worlds and big folders.

Backups

Back up before risky changes, schedule automatic backups, lock, download or restore in one click.

Sub-users

Give co-owners and staff their own login and choose exactly which tabs each one can use.

Versions & Java

Change Minecraft version, Java version and startup flags from the Startup tab yourself.

Resize any time

Slide to more RAM or storage and pay the difference. Downgrades credit unused time back.

Free switching

Move from Paper to Fabric, or from Minecraft to another of our games, at the same price.

Real support

Tickets answered by the people who run the hardware, plus a community Discord.

Hardware that keeps your TPS at 20

Minecraft runs its main game loop on one thread, so fast cores and memory that is really yours matter more than a long spec list.

Data-centre cores. Your CPU share grows with your RAM.

Hard-reserved for your server, never oversold.

StorageSSD storage

Fast chunk loading, saves and backups.

Built for the servers people actually run

A server for friends

A 2–4 GB Paper or Vanilla server is plenty for a group of friends. Give them sub-user access so someone can restart it when you're offline.

Moving from another host?

Bring your world, plugins and configs with you. Download a backup from your old host, start an NS5 server with the same server type and version, then upload your files with SFTP or the file manager. It usually takes about fifteen minutes.

Minecraft hosting questions

How much does a Minecraft server cost at NS5?

Minecraft Java servers start at $3.70 a month for 2 GB of RAM, and Bedrock servers start at $2.10 a month. Price is based on the RAM and storage you choose, with CPU included. A 4 GB server, which suits most friend groups and SMPs, is $7.40 a month with 20 GB of storage. There are no setup fees and backups, SFTP and sub-users are included.

Is there a free Minecraft server trial?

Yes. New customers can run one server free for 48 hours with no credit card. It runs on the same hardware as paid servers. When the trial ends the server is paused, not deleted, so you can pay and keep your world.

Which Minecraft versions and server types can I run?

Java Edition with Paper, Purpur, Fabric, Forge or Vanilla, and Bedrock Edition with the official Bedrock Dedicated Server. You choose the Minecraft version in the Startup tab and can switch server type from the Settings tab at any time.

Can I install mods, plugins and modpacks?

Yes. Search and install plugins and mods from Modrinth in the Plugins tab, or paste a Modrinth modpack link and NS5 installs the right loader, every server-side mod and the pack's configs. You can also upload your own jars over SFTP.

How many players can my server handle?

A 2 GB server suits roughly 1 to 5 players on Vanilla or Paper, 4 GB suits around 5 to 15 with plugins, and 8 GB handles larger communities or modpacks. Modpacks, farms and spread-out players use more. Try our RAM calculator for your setup, and resize from the panel if you need more.

Where are NS5 Minecraft servers located?

Our servers are in Chicago, USA. That's central to North America, so players on both coasts usually get good ping. You can measure your own latency on this page or on our network page.

Can I upgrade my server's RAM later?

Yes. Resize from the Orders page in the panel and pay only the difference for the rest of the month. Your world and files stay where they are. Downgrades credit the unused time to your account.

Do you include backups?

Yes. Take a backup at any time, schedule automatic backups, lock the ones you want to keep, download them, or restore in one click. Backups are included with every plan.

Can I move my existing world to NS5?

Yes. Upload your world folder, plugins or mods and configs with SFTP or the file manager. Our transfer guide walks through it step by step.

Can my friends help manage the server?

Yes. Add sub-users and tick what each person can do, such as console, players, files, backups or settings. They log in with their own account, so you never share your password.
